We are fortunate to have two acclaimed Carnatic vocal teachers at Gurukulam - Sri Seshatre Natarajan and Sri Rohit Dhamankar .
Sri Seshatre Natarajan has learnt Carnatic music from Smt. Sowmya Chandramouli (student of vidwan M.S.Anantharaman), Shri. R.Kailasam (student of vidwan T.N.Krishnan) and (Late) Shri. Ranga Rao in Chennai. He continues learning from artists visiting the US on concert tours. Over the past several years, he has been part of many vocal concerts and dance arangetrams in Texas. Seshatre ji is a co-founder of Austin band Om-kara and University of Texas dance group Nritya Sangam, and also part of Austin dance group Srishti.
Sri Rohit Dhamankar hails from Indore where he grew up in a family full of love for Hindustani classical music. Having learnt some Hindustani classical music as a child, Rohit developed a great fascination for Carnatic music after a chance listening to "bhAvayAmi" by Smt. M.S. Subbulakshmi. He started his training in this genre in IIT, Kanpur under Mrs. Shantha Raghavendra. He continued his training after moving to Austin under the guidance of Smt. Bhamathi Sudarshan, who has learned from yesteryear greats like Smt. T. Muktha and Maruthuvakudi Rajagopala Iyer. Rohit has also taken advanced training from Smt. Charumathi Ramachandran, a doyenne of the MLV bani. Rohit stresses on clear and correct pronunciation of sAhitya along with the musical bhAva.
Location and Timings: Classes will be held at Austin Hindu Temple on Sundays. Duration of each class is 1 hour.
Tuition: $15 per class
Lessons will be taught in Carnatic Music discipline .
